Cherie Goodwin Lippard of Dharma Heart Zen began this project and has been hosting gatherings since 2025. With the intention of honoring every child lost in Gaza and Israel these last few years, hundreds of handmade Jizos have been created as symbols of compassion, protection and love. Our healing Jizo field is growing as we continue on with this creative and healing practice. You are invited to join in as we connect with each other and Jizo's natural qualities through claywork.

SFZC Family Sangha Offering:
Ancestors’ Ritual
Sunday, October 4
2026
Green Gulch Farm
In silence, we will create handmade offerings to our loved ones, to be offered in a Ceremony of Remembrance. We will then process to our Jizo Garden to offer prayer flag messages for the dying, other losses and for ourselves as we continue to live our lives. In this sacred space we will together turn towards the complexity of grief and discover the resilience and hope that arises when we embrace our interconnectedness with all beings. Led by Paravatti Doralee Grindler Katonah.
Join us as we honor our ancestors and the turning of the seasons. Together, through shared stories, creative projects, and movement, we will hold grief as a community, while making time to honor the fall season and receive the Dharma as it is revealed through the land.
Jizo Ceremony for Those Who Have Died
Sunday, November 1 2026
Green Gulch Farm
In this afternoon event, people of all walks of life and loss gather to acknowledge and mourn the death of those who have died. We first create handmade offerings in the Japanese Buddhist tradition of Jizo Bodhisattva, and then say goodbye in a ceremony of remembrance and letting go. Our time together ends with a procession to the garden, where we tie paper prayers on the memorial cherry tree with the intention of nurturing the beings who have died and the beings who continue to live.
